Stretford High School Celebrate Sporting Success
Last Wednesday evening (9th October) saw Stretford High School’s hold their annual Sports Awards, celebrating student sporting success at the High School. As indicated by the recent England Academy Rugby League team training at Stretford High, sports and Rugby league are enjoying a period of success in the school and the region, rewarded and recognised at this year’s event.
In attendance representing the Salford Red Devils Foundation was community coach and Trafford Outreach Officer Danny Barton, attending in his capacity as community coach aiding the development of Rugby League Talent at the Stretford High, while also keeping an eye out for talent with the potential to step up into the professional level of the game.
Also in attendance was Rugby League star Alan Hunte, previously of Salford Red Devils, England, Great Britain and additional Super League teams, attending to congratulate winners and hand out prizes as well as talk to the students about his own sporting successes and experiences, as well as the health and social benefits of an active sporting life.
While all Stretford High students participating in sport, particularly the winners, deserve warm congratulations, a special congratulations goes to the Year 10’s Rugby League team who reached the final of the Trafford Cup. With the final held on the pitch at the AJ Bell Stadium, home of the Salford Red Devils, prior to the game against St Helens, though were narrowly beaten by Wellacre Academy in a closely fought match deserving of being the final.
Community Coach and Trafford Outreach Officer Danny Barton said, “On behalf of everyone at the Salford Red Devils Foundation and club, we’d like to say well done and extend our hearty congratulations to all the students involved in sport at Stretford High. We’re proud of our involvement with the schools thriving sports culture and the students enthusiasm for sports and look forward to continuing our work with Stretford High and their students.
“I’d particularly like to say well done to the Rugby League teams, with the Year 10’s unfortunate to miss out in the final of the Trafford Cup. It was a close run game and I know the boys will relish the challenge of going one step better next time.
“It was a cracking evening at the sports awards, and I know we all enjoyed hearing Alan Hunte talk about his professional experiences. I think we are all looking forward to another great year of sporting success at Stretford High, and I look forward to hopefully being here this time next year having enjoyed another fine year of sporting success here at Stretford High”.
