SRDF Supporting Salford Library World Cup TRY Reading Initiative
The TRY Reading project is funded by the National Lottery, supporting grants for the arts libraries fund in the build up to the RL World Cup. It is among the first projects to have received an award through this fund and it recognises the positive links that can be made between sport and the arts.
Over 150 events, including author talks, writing workshops and drama events will take place across the area between April and November 2013, with libraries working with local clubs and supporters’ groups as well as schools and other interested organisations.
One such event is taking place next Thursday (10th October) at The Walkden Gallery, Worsley. “Talking Rugby League” will see leading Rugby League commentators join a local panel and audience for a lively discussion on the issues and events of the game in this World Cup year.
Speakers will include:
Dave Hadfield – Prominent Rugby League writer and commentator for The Independent Newspaper, BBC and Sky Sports.
Neil Barraclough – Experienced Rugby League journalist known for his extensive radio work and renowned print media coverage, having worked for all the major UK daily titles.
Phil Wilkinson - Sports editor for over a decade at the Wigan Observer and contributor on all matters European rugby league for esteemed Australian magazine Rugby League Week. Phil Wilkinson has also ghost written two of the most acclaimed and bestselling autobiographies on the sport.
And, Phil Caplan and Tony Hannan – The co-directors of Scratching Shed Publishing and Forty-20 magazine, the alternative voice of rugby league - intelligent, thought provoking, informative and – most of all – fun.
In what will no doubt be an evening not to be missed for the regions Rugby League fans, we are enthusiastic to be able to support the event as well as the wider initiative to promote reading.
