Salford City Reds Launch Tackle Smoking Group
This autumn Salford City Reds Foundation is supporting the first ever mass quit smoking attempt launched by the Department of Health, called Stoptober. The campaign will run throughout the month of October. Salford City Reds Foundation is supporting the Stoptober campaign as part of our very own push to get local people to give up smoking.
Research shows that if you can stop smoking for 28 days you are five times more likely to stay smoke free and Stoptober leads smokers through a detailed step by step programme to help them achieve this goal. The Stoptober campaign is all about getting people to enjoy the process of stopping smoking and realising the benefits on you and your family’s long term health.
Smoking is the biggest cause of premature death in England and each year it accounts for over 100,000 deaths in the UK with £2.7billion spent each year by the NHS on smoking related illnesses. Stoptober 2012 kicks off on Monday 1st October and runs for 28 days. For more information and to join the biggest stop smoking challenge of its kind, visit smokefree.nhs.uk/Stoptober.
Salford City Reds will continue to do their bit to raise awareness of the dangers of smoking and have decided to use the month of October to launch their own stop smoking group. The group will meet regularly in the Foundation’s community facilities at the Salford City Stadium and sessions will include the chance to meet like minded local people, whilst engaging in light physical activity.
