Ride to Rio team reach Brazil 

Former Salford player Paul Highton has reached Brazil as he attempts to cycle from London to Rio. 

 

Highto and his team have completed the European leg of their journey, which saw them cycle through England, France, Spain and Portugal, before flying to the northern tip of Brazil.

 

The adventure is taking place to raise money and awareness for a number of different charities, including the Jane Tomlinson Appeal, Rugby League Cares, and the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity.

 

Alongside these excellent causes, Highto is also supporting the Red Devils Foundation, sporting our logo on his Jersey.

 

To raise money and show our support for Paul and the team, the Foundation are hosting a ‘Virtual Ride to Rio’ Charity Cycle Challenge at the Intu-Trafford centre on the 29th and 30th of July.

 

The challenge, set in the ‘Orient’ food court at the shopping centre will give companies and individuals to put themselves to the test on our virtual cycle trail, and get a taste of what Highto is experiencing on a day to day basis. 

 

Like many, Salford Red Devils Foundation Director Mark Brocklehurst has been keeping a keen eye of the progress of Paul and the team, and is looking forward to the opportunity to support them and raise some money for the causes in the process, he said;

 

“It’s an incredible achievement to get this far that takes a special kind of toughness and motivation. The event at the Trafford Centre is the perfect opportunity for people to challenge themselves and their friends, whilst also supporting Highto and the team, and building up as much money for the charities as possible:”

 

The Intu-Trafford centre will also play host to the Super League trophy during the challenge, and fans will have the chance to have their photo taken with the sports biggest prize.
