Education Activity Increases at SRDFoundation
Here at the Salford Red Devils Foundation we’re gearing up our education activities in anticipation for our January launch of our Try Learning Academy BTEC First Diploma in Sport Level 2. In preparation for the extension of our activities here this year marked the beginning of our Apprenticeship scheme here at the Salford Red Devils Foundation.
Our first 2 participants on the Apprenticeship scheme have quickly adapted to life here at the Foundation, and were keen to discuss their progression over the previous months.
James Molyneux and Jay Boyd (both 16) first came into contact with the SRDFoundation through volunteer placements through schools, as well as helping the club with Match Day operations.
James says, “I was keen to increase my involvement with the foundation, having enjoyed my time with Lewis (SCRFoundation Outreach Officer, Salford) and coaching in the community.
“Having been accepted onto the full time apprenticeship scheme, I have increased my coaching responsibilities and I’m now coaching Buile Hill High School year 7 & 8’s, as well as having completed my first aid and level 1 coaching qualification.
“The chance to shadow senior team members has been great, and I really pleased to be increasing my career opportunities, whether into a coaching or teaching role or beyond, while earning as well”.
Jay was also enthusiastic at the prospect of joining the apprenticeship scheme, having preferred the Foundation alternative to more traditional education routes into employment.
Jay explains, “Well, I worked with Andy (Manchester Outreach Officer) quite a lot during my volunteer placement, so I was eager to build on this experience through joining the scheme. Now I’m coaching the Year 8 & 9’s at my old school (Swinton High), as well as assisting my colleagues in other areas of community activities.
“It’s great to be contributing to the team here, while increasing my education and professional experience. I’m really enjoying the course here and feel like I’m making a great first step into a professional coaching career”.
We are delighted to be building on our education activities here at the SRDFoundation through the launch of our Try Learning Academy in January, offering firsthand experience in a number of areas connected to professional sport. While offering participants the opportunity to gain a BTEC Diploma in Sport Level 2, there will also be a range of employment experience opportunities arising with ourselves and our network of partners.
