Community round up

Even with the Salford Red Devils playing away from home, there was still plenty of rugby league to get stuck into across Salford and Greater Manchester as the community season got into full swing. 

 

Friday night saw a mouth watering derby match as Manchester Rangers welcomed Bury to the Manchester Regional Arena with local bragging rights on the line under the flood lights. 

 

The Rangers are new to the North West Men's League Division 2 following last seasons promotion, and came up against a Bury side with a wealth of experience at that level.

 

An impressive looking Broncos side ran out 35-14 winners in a game that was closer than the score line suggested, in front of a healthy crowd of 358.

 

There were plenty of signs of encouragement for the leagues new boys however with a number of players on debut, giving Rangers plenty of reasons to be positive about for the season ahead.

 

The Rangers were presented with a signed shirt by the Red Devils Foundation after the game.

 

Elsewhere Salford City Roosters first team fell to a narrow defeat away to Bradford Dudley Hill, losing 24-22 to the Yorkshire side. Bradley White scored a hat-trick of both tries and goals, but the Roosters couldn’t quite overcome an unbeaten Bradford side.

 

The junior and youth leagues continued to prepare themselves for the upcoming season, and the Salford Red Devils have been on hand to help this process, delivering strength and conditioning sessions at a number of community clubs. The youth section is also set to welcome the newly formed Belle Vue Bees, whose under 12's have their first session on Tuesday night.
